‘Like I Care’

The RSC x Warwickshire Young Carers x The Barbican- 2022

A co-produced project with The RSC and Warwickshire Young Carers inspired by the theme of care seen in The RSC’s upcoming production of My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican. Creating two installation pieces – one at the Barbican, one in Stratford – members of the public can listen to the stories of the young carer participants who have shaped the artworks with their stories and lived experiences.

The young carers recently took part in workshops at the RSC where they began to create art that reflects their everyday lives as carers. We guided the workshop alongside spoken-word practitioner and Birmingham Poet Laureate Finalist Kurly McGeachie. The items and activities reflected in the final artworks are all informed by the stories shared, from changing a washing machine filter to reading a sibling a story.

We developed the Structure Installation with Birmingham based fabricators Groove. and designed a Vinyl Installation which features on the Stratford-Upon-Avon High Street.
