Rocket Round Leicester

When LOROS announced they were doing the Rocket Round Leicester trail, we knew it was an opportunity we couldn’t let pass us by.

Our design is inspired by the hosiery factories that led the ‘Leicester Clothes the World’ industrial period which spanned from the 1930s until the 1970s.

Drawing on research found in the Leicester University Affective Digital Histories, we became interested in the factory life for women working in Leicester City. We listened to audio files of the women who worked in the factories to inspire their illustrations.

Their design features a machinist ‘badge of honour’ for workers first needle injury, decorating the factory for Christmas and the hard-working women who ‘clothed the world’.

Watch the Rocket come to life…

This time lapse takes you through the painting of the rocket from taping out the design to applying the varnish….

“Lauren and Liv were a pleasure to work with on the Rocket Round Leicester trail. Their design and dedication to the rocket was excellent and they really shared our enthusiasm about the project.

The work Pickle Illustration have created is very distinctive, bright and colourful and it was a pleasure to see it showcased across the city for many to see.”
