Spring On Stage

Chester Cathedral - 2022

'Spring On Stage' is an installation working with Wild Rumpus for Chester Designed By Nature ‘Spring Blooms’ Festival. The work is inspired by the vivid colours and patterns of insects which are seen in the spring season. We wanted to showcase the amazing colour in nature and play with the scale of bugs creating an immersive and bold stage structure.

Working with wood fabricators Groove., we developed a flat pack cube based structure which is easy to transport, install and is therefore more flexible. We hope to create an uplifting space for performers to utilise and a bright welcoming to Chester and the natural world.

Lauren and Liv were a joy to work with on this project. They are expert at creatively responding to a brief. They listened carefully to what we wanted the project to achieve and brought their attention to detail to both the practicalities of the project and the audience experience.

They cleverly incorporated sustainability into their design, something which is very important to us as an organisation, bringing this consideration into every stage of the design process - from the paints they used to how the installation could be transported. Their installation sits perfectly within the city, providing a bold ‘pop' of fun and colour and an exciting, yet sympathetic, contrast to the warm stone of Chester’s historic Cathedral.
